We are thrilled to announce that Sport Manitoba has approved to add a STAR 5 category to MWG. There will be two spots to qualify at the Gordon Linney Open for each Region with a total of 12 eligible skaters in STAR 5. (The STAR 5 skaters will repeat their solo on the second day of competition).
In addition, Sport Manitoba also granted us 1 more spot for each Region in the STAR 6 & 7 category , bringing that category to 3 skaters in each Region.
We recognize that there will still be deficits in some Regions however, this certainly increases the number of skaters who get to experience the Games!

I have been involved in Figure Skating for 40+years as a skater, coach and parent. I enjoy coaching because I get to go to the rink each day and help skaters achieve their goals, whether they are learning to take those first strides across the ice, landing their first jump, or passing their first test. I have coached CanSkate, CanPowerSkate, StarSkate, Adult Skate and Competitive Skate. I have attended many Seminars and Competitions. I am always eager to learn how to become a better Coach and I love to see the skater’s progress in skating!

Hello, my name is Lesley Wray. I have been a certified coach working in Russell, Manitoba, since 2018. I grew up skating in the Norman Region of Manitoba and have been involved in coaching at various levels since the 1990s. I took a break from ice skating during university, during which time I got married, began my career as a teacher, and started my family. I returned to the ice in my late 20s, joining two synchronized skating teams, and re-learning the new system. I am proud to have recently achieved certification as a Level 2 Provincial Trained Coach.
My coaching experience includes working in Yorkton, Roblin, and Russell. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to mentor in Calgary alongside prominent athletes such as Kaetlyn Osmond and Michael Marinaro. I have also participated in Mariposa’s summer schools, where I received mentorship from Janice Morgan, Doug Leigh, and their team.
In recent years, I have been mentoring at the Skate Canada Challenge, gaining valuable experience and knowledge. I am passionate about my sport, which is an important part of my life.
