Stonewall Skating Club Deadline Open

Figure Skating Coach Opportunity
Stonewall Skating Club is proud to be part of a vibrant and supportive skating community.
We’re a Skate Canada-sanctioned club that blends technical excellence with a warm,
welcoming culture. Our coaching team works together in a spirit of collaboration and
mentorship to provide exceptional experiences for our skaters — and we’re looking for a new
coach to join us!
We are a not-for-profit club based in the Interlake Region, a short drive north of Winnipeg.
We are experiencing growth and are seeking a coach to add to our roster of coaches.
Whether you’re an experienced coach with a passion for mentoring, or you’re just starting
out and CanSkate certified, there’s a place for you here. We’re looking for a certified coach
to teach CanSkate and/or STARSkate group programs and private lessons. If you’re newer
to coaching, you’ll be supported by our experienced team and have opportunities to grow in
your coaching journey.
What You’ll Do:
● Deliver engaging, effective instruction: You’ll provide high-quality on-ice coaching
to skaters in our CanSkate and/or STARSkate programs, integrating Skate Canada’s
Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) framework. You’ll focus on age-appropriate
skill development, progress tracking, and encouraging each skater to reach their
potential.
● Collaborate with a supportive coaching team: Our coaches work together to plan
and deliver programming, group lessons, special events (like ice shows and
performance nights), and more. We believe in open communication, teamwork, and
creating an atmosphere where our coaches genuinely enjoy working together.
● Mentor or be mentored: Depending on your level of experience, you will either
mentor junior coaches or benefit from the mentorship of our seasoned team
members. We foster a positive, growth-oriented environment that supports your
development no matter where you are in your coaching journey.
● Support the overall success of our skaters. You’ll help skaters set and pursue
individual goals, whether they’re working toward CanSkate ribbons or progressing
through STARSkate assessments. You’ll also complete skating assessments and
report cards as part of our commitment to tracking progress and keeping families
informed and engaged. You’ll play an active role in celebrating skater achievements
along the way.
What We’re Looking For:
● A reliable, punctual, and team-oriented coach who is excited to work in a
collaborative environment.
● A Skate Canada-certified coach in good standing (NCCP Regional Coach or
higher preferred; CanSkate Coach welcomed if you’re earlier in your coaching
journey).
● Someone who is passionate about working with skaters, knows how to have fun
on the ice, and cares deeply about the work they do.
● Experience delivering CanSkate and/or STARSkate programming (or a willingness to
learn and grow in these areas).
● A commitment to attend regular ice times (Monday and Thursday evenings);
Saturday mornings are optional and can be discussed based on availability.
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills — with skaters, fellow coaches,
program assistants, board members, and parents.
● An interest in shaping programming and helping to plan club events.
Programming Schedule:
● Mondays and Thursdays:
○ STARSkate: 4:15–6:15 p.m.
○ CanSkate: 6:30–7:15 p.m.
● NEW for the upcoming season:
Optional STARSkate ice time on Saturday mornings (8:00–9:30 a.m.) for skaters to
work independently or with a coach (no structured group lessons). Saturday
mornings are optional and open for discussion, based on coach availability.
Our season runs from late September until the end of March.
Why Join Us?
● A culture of support and collaboration: Stonewall Skating Club is not just a place
to coach—it’s a community where teamwork, mentorship, and a shared love of
skating create a positive atmosphere.
● Opportunity for growth: Whether you are looking to mentor junior coaches or
benefit from the mentorship of experienced coaches, we are committed to your
ongoing development.
● Financial support for new coaches: We offer 50% subsidization for CanSkate
coaching course fees for those just starting their coaching journey.
● Financial support for registration fees: To ease the ongoing costs of coaching, we
cover 50% of Skate Canada registration fees for those working with multiple
clubs—and 100% for coaches who commit exclusively to Stonewall Skating Club,
reflecting the value we place on your dedication and investment.
● Mileage reimbursement for non-local coaches: To support those commuting from
outside the area, we provide mileage reimbursement—recognizing the time and
expense involved in contributing to our club.
● A passionate, enthusiastic community: Join a growing club with an engaged
group of skaters and families, all united by a love of skating.
